What to include on a handyman invoice

Your name and contact info
Business name, phone, and email so the customer knows who to pay and how to reach you.
Customer and address
The customer’s name and the address where you did the work.
Each task on its own line
List every repair or install separately — “patch drywall”, “replace faucet” — rather than one vague “handyman services” line.
Hours or flat rates
Show hourly labor as hours × rate, or a flat price per task. Mixing both on one invoice is fine.
Materials
Parts and supplies you bought, at cost or with your handling markup.
Total and due date
The amount due and when — handyman jobs are usually due on completion or within a week.

Tips for getting handyman invoices paid faster

  • Keep a “honey-do list” invoice itemized by task. Customers happily pay for eight visible fixes; they question one big number.
  • Include a minimum service charge line if you have a trip minimum, so it is not a surprise.
  • Snap before and after photos and mention them in your notes — it heads off “was that really done?” calls.
  • Ask for payment on the spot when the job is small. Every day between the job and the invoice is a day you are not paid.

Pricing the job first? Use the job cost estimator or the markup calculator. See also Redbud Way for handymen.

Frequently asked questions

What should a handyman invoice include?
Your business name and contact details, the customer’s name and address, an invoice number and date, each task or repair on its own line with hours or a flat price, materials, the total due, the due date, and how the customer can pay.
Should I charge by the hour or by the job on a handyman invoice?
Either works, and many handymen mix both: a flat price for predictable tasks like mounting a TV, and hourly labor for open-ended repairs. The hourly rate calculator can help you set a rate that covers overhead and profit.
Is this invoice template really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up and nothing to install. The generator runs entirely in your browser — the details you type are not sent to or saved on our servers. Fill it in, then download or print it as many times as you like.
How do I save the invoice as a PDF?
Click “Download / print PDF”. Your browser’s print window opens with only the invoice on the page; choose “Save as PDF” (or “Microsoft Print to PDF”) as the destination to save a file you can email or text to your customer.
Can my customer pay the invoice by card?
A PDF invoice can only ask for payment — your customer still has to mail a check or find another way to pay. With a free Redbud Way account you can send the invoice with a card pay link instead, optionally collect a deposit first, and the money is paid out to your bank about two days after the customer pays. Redbud Way charges a 0% platform fee; standard Stripe card processing fees apply.
